Sky’s BAFTA-winning sports comedy series A League of Their Own, produced by CPL Productions, will return to screens this October and is announcing a new headline name for its 18th season. Joining ALOTO veteran Jamie Redknapp on the red team will be comedian, presenter and triple BAFTA-winner, Mo Gilligan – a familiar face from past series and one of the most celebrated TV stars right now.
Opposite the red team is ALOTO’s other recently announced new face: Lioness legend and blue team captain Jill Scott, along with former Man City and England right-back, Micah Richards. Returning to take on the managing role of host is comedian and presenter, Romesh Ranganathan.
The brand-new series, available on Sky Max and streaming service NOW, is set to be another corker, with star guests from the worlds of sport, comedy and television joining the teams each week, including Stuart Broad, Mary Earps, Christian Horner, Daniel Sturridge, Tom Davis, Katherine Ryan, Rob Beckett, Jimmy Carr, Maisie Adam, Guz Khan, Alex Brooker, Big Zuu, and more.
Madcap challenges for the ALOTO family to face include a penalty challenge in front of a packed-out Old Trafford crowd, a Peloton challenge to become the best instructor and a Bazball inspired ALOTO cricket challenge.
On his huge new permanent transfer, Mo Gilligan said: “I love this show. I always have. It’s good people and good vibes. When Sky asked if I’d consider joining the A League of Their Own team, there was no question in my mind. It was an immediate yes. I’m here for it all!”
Named the ‘Funniest Man in Britain’ by The Times, stand up sensation Mo Gilligan is one of the UK’s biggest comedy stars. He’s achieved phenomenal success with highlights of two sold out national tours including London’s O2 Arena, three Stand Up Specials and numerous smash hit TV credits (his own The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan, The Masked Singer, That’s My Jam).
Phil Edgar Jones, Director of Sky Arts and Entertainment said: “A League of their Own is a brilliantly entertaining show and a big part of its special, unique formula is our star panelists, and the banter they share with our guests every week. As such, we are absolutely thrilled to have Mo Gilligan formally come on board. We can’t wait to see him get his feet under the table and his head in the game.”
Back for its 18th season, A League of Their Own was commissioned by Zai Bennett, Managing Director of Content for Sky UK and Ireland and Phil Edgar-Jones, Director, Sky Arts and Entertainment. The Commissioning Editor for Sky UK is Barbara Lee and the Executive Producers for CPL, a Seven. One Studios company, are Murray Boland, Danielle Lux, Jack Shillaker and David Taylor.
