Critically-acclaimed series Miles From Nowhere has landed nominations across four categories at this year’s New Zealand Television Awards.

The six-part drama-comedy is nominated for awards including best comedy, best script: comedy (Mohamed Hassan), best supporting actress (Roxie Mohebbi) and best costume design (Briar Vivian).

This bold and inventive dark comedy drama, created by award-winning journalist and writer Mohamed Hassan, finds the humour and heart in the everyday and not-so-everyday experiences of the Muslim diaspora. It follows Said – a young man in crisis. His fiancée has dumped him. His career is non-existent and his passion for music is crippled by lack of confidence. On top of everything, his mum worries that he’s losing his faith. He is surrounded by a strong and mainly supportive community, but their efforts to help, make him feel suffocated. He’s waiting for a sign that someone’s listening. And as it turns out, ‘they’ are! Said forms a dangerous friendship with the Security Intelligence Service agent sent to spy on him when the government fear Said’s being radicalized. And, as a result, he manages to put his whole community at risk.

Miles From Nowhere, a Sky NZ Originals production, is produced by Gibson Group and Homegrown Pictures; the series is distributed internationally by Seven. One Studios International.
