Red Arrow International is to distribute new espionage thriller “The Romeo Section”.
The 10 x 1 hour series for CBC Canada is created and executive produced by acclaimed showrunner Chris Haddock (co-executive producer/writer: Boardwalk Empire, creator/showrunner: Intelligence and Da Vinci’s Inquest). The show premieres in Canada on 14 October 2015.
Red Arrow International will launch the show at MIPCOM 2015.
“The Romeo Section” is a taut thriller about espionage in the Pacific Rim. Set in Vancouver, the show follows seasoned spymaster Professor Wolfgang McGee (Andrew Airlie – Fifty Shades of Grey; 50/50), an academic who secretly manages a roster of espionage assets and informants. These assets, referred to as Romeo or Juliet spies, use their powers of seduction to extract secrets from state intelligence targets.
As the drama unfolds the underside of a seemingly serene city is exposed as a haven for international drug barons, fugitives and covert financiers.
The strong ensemble cast also includes Jemmy Chen (Rush), Juan Riedinger (Smallville; Continuum; Covert Affairs; Jennifer’s Body), Eugene Lipinski (Sophie’s Choice; Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade; Fringe), and Stephanie Bennett (Big Eyes; iZombie; UnReal).
The series is currently shooting in and around Vancouver and sees Chris Haddock reunite with fellow executive producer Laura Lightbown, director Stephen Surjik, producer Arvi Liimatainen and writer/co-executive producer Jesse McKeown.
Chris Haddock, executive producer / creator of “The Romeo Section” said, “We’ve got a hugely talented cast and crew, and I’m stoked and delighted to be partnered with Red Arrow.”
Henrik Pabst, Managing Director of Red Arrow International said, “We are thrilled to be distributing Chris’s next major drama. We have wanted to work with him for a long time, and this intensely woven and high-stakes international spy story is a hugely exciting project to take out to the world.”
“The Romeo Section” is produced by Haddock Entertainment for CBC Canada.
Also at MIPCOM Red Arrow International will launch previously announced new dramas including genre drama “Cleverman” (6 x 1 hour) starring Iain Glen (Game of Thrones); event TV movie “Peter & Wendy” starring Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games); Season Two of crime drama “Bosch” (Total: 20 x 1 hour) starring Titus Welliver (Argo); crime series “Einstein” starring Tom Beck (Alarm for Cobra 11); and TV movie “Berlin One” from Wiedemann & Berg – the award-winning producers of The Lives of Others.
