Gravitas Ventures has picked up the rights to Raising Buchanan, the feature film debut from writer/director Bruce Dellis (The Intervention of Brad).
Raising Buchanan will be available to audiences globally across all VOD/Digital & Blu-Ray/DVD platforms beginning on May 5, 2020.
This wickedly clever independent gem follows a desperate woman who steals the corpse of a former US president in search of a payoff, and yet no one is particularly interested in getting him back!
The movie is inspired by two real-life stories: the 1876 plot to steal Abraham Lincoln’s body, and the exhumation of Zachary Taylor in 1991.
Raising Buchanan stars Amanda Melby (Candid Camera), René Auberjonois (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Cathy Shim (Reno 911!), Robert Ben Garant (Reno 911!), Terence Bernie Hines (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Jennifer Pfalzgraff (21 Grams), Steve Briscoe (Covet), Lynnette ‘L.A.’ Brown (Kerry and Angie), and M. Emmet Walsh (Blade Runner).
Produced by Melby and Joe Gruberman (Eleven Eleven), this award-winning feature film swept the film festival circuit racking up multiple awards, including: Best Feature, Best Dramedy, Best Actress (Melby) and Best Screenplay (Dellis), among others.
“We are thrilled to be working with Gravitas. They saw value in releasing a quirky, original film with a dash of history mixed in — not normally the stuff of multiplex offerings. Their passion and reach ensures that Raising Buchanan will be accessible to film lovers of all stripes, and their confidence in our film makes me a happy lad, indeed,” said writer/director Bruce Dellis.
“Raising Buchanan’s script contains one of the most fresh and unique premises we’ve seen on comedy in a while. We’re very happy to be partnering with Amanda Melby and her team to bring this film to audiences everywhere. This movie also helps us remember how awesome René Auberjonois was as a performer and person. He will be missed in this industry,” said Nick Royak, Acquisitions Manager at Gravitas Ventures.
