The BBC in the UK has announced that the second season of hit crime drama Vienna Blood will premiere on Friday, December 10 at 9pm on BBC Two, with the first feature length episode, ‘The Melancholy Countess’.
Set in 1900s Vienna and based on the bestselling novels by Frank Tallis, Vienna Blood is produced by award-winning production company Endor Productions and MR Film in Austria for ORF and ZDF. It has been adapted by acclaimed screenwriter Steve Thompson (Deep State, Jericho, Sherlock).
Filmed on location in Vienna in English, Vienna Blood stars Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game, Dracula) as Max Liebermann, and Juergen Maurer (Vorstadtweiber, Spuren des Bösen) as Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt. The second season is directed by Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Robert Dornhelm (Anne Frank: The Whole Story), the lead director of the first series of Vienna Blood.
Vienna Blood season two aired on ORF in Austria earlier this month to excellent ratings; the series delivered an impressive average market share of 27% for ORF2, where it was scheduled across three consecutive nights. The series will premiere on ZDF in Germany on November 21, airing weekly; the show has also sold to BBC in the UK and PBS in the US.
Red Arrow Studios International distributes the series internationally, where it has sold widely, including to broadcasters in France, Spain, Finland, Japan and key territories across Central and Eastern Europe.
All episodes from season two will be available on iPlayer immediately after the first episode has aired.
