The BBC has commissioned a new one-off show from Studio71 UK called The Main Part.
Studio71 UK is one of five indies to have landed the order, as part of a new BBC teen monologue series.
The monologue series comes out of the BBC Spark initiative, which is an in-house team that helps the Corporation think differently about the way they work and change it for the better, particularly around themes of diversity.
Commissioned by BBC Children’s, the Studio71 show The Main Part is about a young girl with Anglo-Indian heritage who dreams of being an actor but learns about the realities of being type cast.
The monologues will launch on iPlayer in due course and follow the recent reboot of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads monologues, that aired over the summer on BBC One.
Head of Content for BBC Children’s, Cheryl Taylor, told Broadcast magazine: “We want to give as many new diverse creatives an opportunity to be involved in broadcast shows and are thrilled to have done this with the Sparks monologues, which introduce powerful authentic stories for today’s teens.”
