Canadian broadcaster Global has named Departure as its No.1 new fall series. The high-octane conspiracy thriller, distributed outside of North America by Red Arrow Studios International, has to date averaged 1.2 million across its six-episode run, according to data provided by Numeris, the Canadian audience measurement association, and ranks as a Top Five series overall in Canada.
Season One of Departure, starring Emmy Award-winner Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife) and Academy Award-winner Christopher Plummer (Knives Out), follows the investigation into the shocking disappearance of Flight 716, a passenger plane that vanishes over the Atlantic Ocean.
Season Two, about the tragic crash of a high-speed automated train travelling from Toronto to Chicago, has just wrapped production in Toronto and will deliver in 2021.
Archie Panjabi and Christopher Plummer reprise their roles for Season Two and are joined by a high-profile supporting cast, including Kris Holden-Reid (Umbrella Academy), Jason O’Mara (The Man in the High Castle) and Donal Logue (Gotham).
Departure is a Canada/Ireland co-production from Shaftesbury (Canada) and Deadpan Pictures (Ireland), in association with Corus Entertainment, Starlings Television and Red Arrow Studios International
Season One of Departure has sold to broadcasters including Peacock/Universal in the US, M6 in France, and NBCUniversal International Networks (NBCUIN) for Europe and Africa, who have also taken Season Two.
