The Angus MacLachlan Award-winning Drama Premiered at Tribeca Film Festival
Gravitas Ventures has secured North American rights to Junebug scribe Angus MacLachlan’s Abundant Acreage Available, off its premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival where it won the Best Screenplay Award in the U.S. Narrative Competition. Martin Scorsese executive produced the film that MacLachlan both wrote and directed, about grown siblings coming to terms with the transitory nature of life, and what we regard as property. It will debut in theaters and on demand this Fall.
Abundant Acreage Available unravels the story of Tracy and Jesse (Amy Ryan, “The Office,” “Bridge of Spies,” “Terry Kinney,” “Billions,” “Oz”) who are reeling from their father’s recent passing on their N.C. tobacco farm. Their quiet and simple existence is unexpectedly disrupted by the sudden arrival of three mysterious brothers, camping on their land and possessing a surprising connection to their family. The two sets of siblings are set on a direct collision course that will change all of their lives, for better or for worse.
Says Josh Spector, Director of Acquisitions for Gravitas Ventures, “Amy Ryan gives a stellar performance in Angus MacLachlan’s nuanced, emotionally charged film and we are proud to be partners with such talented filmmakers.”
MacLachlan adds “I am thrilled that Gravitas Ventures will release our film. It is about the universal aspect of family, told through the prism of a specific place, and about characters not often portrayed in American cinema. Hopefully it will have resonances with a wide ranging audience.”
In addition to writing and directing, MacLachlan (Junebug) also served as a Producer on Abundant Acreage Available alongside Kate Churchill (Spotlight). Academy Award® winner Martin Scorsese Executive Produced with Jeanne Hagerty (Enlighten Up!). The deal was negotiated by Spector for Gravitas Ventures and by Jay Cohen from the Gersh Agency on behalf of the filmmakers.
