Gravitas Ventures has acquired worldwide rights to, Age Out, formerly known as Friday’s Child, which premiered at SXSW Film Festival, starring Tye Sheridan (Ready Player One, X-Men: Apocalypse), Imogen Poots (Green Room), Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, Hunger Games), Brett Butler (The Walking Dead), and Caleb Landry Jones (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, X-Men: First Class). Age Out was written and directed by A.J. Edwards (The Better Angels). The film will be available in theaters and on demand November 22, 2019.
Age Out stars Tye Sheridan as Richie, a fresh out of foster care, 18-year-old, who is forced to navigate a stark life on his own since his emancipation. Richie must survive despite a glaring environment of poverty, addiction and run-ins with the law.
“It’s a mesmerizing piece of work, featuring what is arguably Sheridan’s best performance to date, and a good indication of his range,” said Brian Tallerico for Roger Ebert with a review from SXSW Film Festival.
Sheridan’s strong performance will keep audiences engaged throughout the film. The Shanghai International Film Festival named Sheridan Best Actor for his role in the film.
“We are truly excited about the partnership with Gravitas. This is a bold and innovative film that highlights the real-life challenges of aging out of the foster care system,” says Alan Elias, chief executive officer of OnBuzz. “We’ve seen such an enthusiastic response to the film and remain committed to its success on the international stage.”
“A.J.’s film simmers with an unpredictable intensity rooted in Tye’s performance, which is further elevated by the standout score and cinematography,” said Tony Piantedosi, Vice President of Acquisitions at Gravitas Ventures. “We look forward to audiences worldwide discovering the film.”
Piantedosi negotiated the deal with Alan Elias at OnBuzz.
