July August Productions now in production on the award-winning format.
KAN, Israel’s public broadcaster, has commissioned July August Productions, a Red Arrow Studios company, to produce a local version of the international hit format Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds.
The show, which is now in production, will see ten senior residents of the Bait Bakfar care home in the central district of Israel, brought together with ten four-year-olds for six weeks.
The series is set to premiere on KAN later this year.
The original production of Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds is created and produced by CPL Productions for Channel 4 in the UK, and has recently completed its second successful season.
Red Arrow Studios International distribute the format of Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds worldwide, and the format has sold to a range of territories including France, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia and Germany – where VOX recently announced a Season 2 recommission of the show from Red Arrow’s RedSeven Entertainment.
Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds has won a number of international awards including Best New Format and Best Reality: Constructed Reality at the 2019 Realscreen Awards, Best Original Programme at the Broadcast Awards, Best Popular Factual Series at the Edinburgh TV Awards, and Best Factual Entertainment and Best Brand Driven Format at the International Format Awards. It was also nominated for a 2018 BAFTA award.
Amit Stretiner, Managing Director of July August Productions, said: “When we were pitching Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds to Israeli TV executives, we were overwhelmed by the level of interest and passion for this show. Like many countries, Israel’s ageing population is increasing, and how we care for our elderly citizens is becoming an increasingly important issue. We are delighted that KAN has commissioned this exciting format for Israel.”
Tal Fraifeld, VP of programming at KAN, said: “Looking after our elderly is a pressing social issue, and this format is a radical way of bringing the generations together for mutual benefit. We can’t wait to see the results of the experiment and share them with KAN viewers”.
Last month KAN recommissioned season 2 of July August Productions’ sitcom Checkout!, which is also distributed by Red Arrow Studios International.
