Filming underway in Los Angeles on the project starring Jack Quaid and Maya Erskine
Today, Studio71 and Red Hour Films announced the start of production of Plus One, a romantic comedy starring Maya Erskine (Casual, Man Seeking Woman) and Jack Quaid (Logan Lucky, Vinyl, The Hunger Games). Co-written and directed by Andrew Rhymer and Jeff Chan, Ed Begley, Jr. (Better Call Saul, Arrested Development), Perrey Reeves (Entourage), Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story, The Big Short), Rosalind Chao (The Joy Luck Club), Jon Bass (Baywatch) and Beck Bennett (Saturday Night Live) round out the cast.
Set during the inevitable year that all late 20-somethings experience—in which seemingly every person they know gets married— Plus One follows Alice (Erskine) and Ben (Quaid), long-time friends who agree to be one another’s plus ones as they power through an endless parade of insufferable weddings.
Plus One is executive produced by Red Hour’s Ben Stiller, Nicholas Weinstock and Jackie Cohn, in addition to Studio71’s Dan Weinstein, Michael Schreiber and Amee Dolleman. Producers on the film include Debbie Liebling, Ross Putman, Jeremy Reitz and Greg Beauchamp.
The acclaimed indie rock-band, Real Estate, will be contributing original songs for the film.
“Relatability and realism are super important to us, and it’s why we are so drawn to Jack Quaid and Maya Erskine for Ben and Alice. Aside from being hysterical, they have such an effortless, natural quality to them that makes these characters feel like real people,”said filmmakers Andrew Rhymer and Jeff Chan.
Plus One is one of many feature-length productions Studio71 has in the works and comes on the heels of the company’s recent announcement of Saving Zoe. Red Hour is currently in production on the Showtime event miniseries Escape at Dannemora , and recently wrapped production on two films for Netflix, Eggplant Emoji and Alex Strangelove.
Lunacy Productions’ Stu Pollard and Harris McCabe also executive produce, as well as James Short and John Short of Inwood Road Films and Milan Chakraborty. Jack Quaid is represented by UTA and Anonymous Content. Maya Erskine is represented by Gersh. Andrew Rhymer and Jeff Chan are represented by Verve and Anonymous Content.
