Take one for Red Arrow International’s new Scandi-crime series “100 Code”, which kicks off production today. Created by Academy Award winner Bobby Moresco (“Crash”, “Million Dollar Baby”), the series features Hollywood star Dominic Monaghan (“Lost”) as NYPD detective Conley who travels to Sweden to investigate a string of shocking murders. In Stockholm, he is paired with Swedish cop Eklund, played by Michael Nyqvist (“The Millennium Series”). Moresco will also direct several episodes.
“100 Code” has been developed by Red Arrow Entertainment’s LA-based scripted arm, Fabrik Entertainment (“The Killing”) and is produced by 100 Code AB and Zen Productions (“The Bible Code”). Klaus Zimmermann as well as Fabrik Entertainment’s Henrik Bastin and Mikkel Bondesen will serve as executive producers along with Moresco. Joakim Hansson will produce. The series is produced for Kanal 5 in Sweden and marks Sky Deutschland’s first co-production.
“Through Henrik and Joakim I will get the opportunity to work with a first rate crew and A-list actors, Michael Nyqvist and Dominic Monaghan. I am very excited about filming in Stockholm: the architecture, the light, the people and the atmosphere. Then, of course, the idea of a magnificently beautiful and safe city like Stockholm harboring evil just below the surface, an evil that is all encompassing just seemed like it would work.”, says creator and director Bobby Moresco.
“For me it all begins with the script, which is fantastic and comes via a group of writers that can claim an authentic knowledge of the subjects they are dealing with. The characters are rich and real. The actors playing the characters are all very applied and interesting. In addition Swedes and Scandinavians seem to have a great feeling for the crime genre right now – the success of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’, ‘The Killing’ and ‘The Bridge’ are testament to that fact. Also, naturally Sweden and its capital city are a big draw for me… I love coffee AND cake” says Dominic Monaghan.
“The Swedish-American production of ‘100 Code’ – with its dazzling blend of high-profiled international and local top resources – underscores our commitment to investing in the local market with the goal of deepening and broadening our portfolio. We are well positioned in the crime genre, and we are confident that ‘100 Code’ will be a strong contributor on our trajectory of growth and success in the Swedish market”, says Calle Jansson, Channel Director, SBS Discovery Television.
Irina Ignatiew, Managing Director Global Scripted Distribution at Red Arrow International: “Dominic Monaghan, Michael Nyqvist and Bobby Moresco: With its all-star cast and crew, ‘100 Code’ is the new crime property to look out for. I have been dying for the production to kick off and can’t wait to see the first sequences.”
100 Code
New York. Stockholm. Over the course of the last 12 months, young, blonde and blue-eyed women have been turning up dead in a field of asphodel flowers. Through a special dispensation from the NYPD, Detective Tommy Conley is given permission to observe and advise the Stockholm PD.
Upon his arrival in Sweden, he is paired with Mikael Eklund, a by-the-book, Swedish cop with an aversion to American grab-and-go culture. Both hate each other, but the two had better straighten out their differences as the killings continue.
As the investigation unfolds, a complex network of ruthless murderers is revealed and Conley and Eklund come closer to discovering who is pulling the strings behind the killings. But who is he and what is he after?
