Sundance Channel will co-produce the television adaptation to the international bestselling spy novel “Restless” by William Boyd. Starring Hayley Atwell (“Captain America”), Rufus Sewell (“Pillars of the Earth”), Michelle Dockery (“Downton Abbey”), Charlotte Rampling (“Melancholia”) and Michael Gambon (“Harry Potter), the 2 x 90’ event miniseries starts shooting this summer in South Africa and the UK. “Restless” is produced by Endor Productions and is due for transmission on BBC ONE and on Sundance Channel in the US late 2012.
Set against the background of the British Secret Service operations in the USA during World War II, “Restless” tells the gripping story of Eva Delectorskaya, a young Russian recruited as a spy to infiltrate the corridors of power and swinging public opinion toward the US joining the allied war effort.
Written by William Boyd and directed by Edward Hall (“MI5”), “Restless” is produced by Emmy award winner, Hilary Bevan Jones (“State Of Play”, “Girl In The Café”) of Endor Productions. Executive Producers are William Boyd, Matthew Read for BBC and Christian Vesper for Sundance Channel.
Sarah Barnett, General Manager of Sundance Channel, stated, “Restless’ is a compelling new tale of espionage, complete with fresh, arresting characters and surprise at every turn. That – along with the roster of talent associated with this production – makes ‘Restless’ a perfect addition to our original scripted programming line-up. We aim with our scripted work to create high quality, engaging stories told from a singular point of view – like the Golden Globe® award winning ‘Carlos’ and the Golden Globe nominated ‘Appropriate Adult.’ We’re delighted that ‘Restless’ is our next scripted project to air on Sundance.”
Jens Richter, Managing Director of SevenOne International “’Restless’ has all the ingredients for an international TV success: best-selling novel, screenplay written by genius William Boyd and a top-notch cast. We are thrilled to join forces with Sundance Channel on this great project.”
