44 Blue Productions‘ feature documentary Vice Versa: Fear of a Black Quarterback has been nominated for the Sports Emmy Award for outstanding long documentary.

Fear of a Black Quarterback features former NFL quarterbacks including Donovan McNabb, Warren Moon, Akili Smith, Vince Young, Shaun King, Quincy Carter and Marlin Briscoe, as well as ex-ESPN personality Jemele Hill and super agent Leigh Steinberg. The film provides an inside look into McNabb’s NFL experiences and the hardships and discrimination Black players in this position have faced.

The documentary also sheds light on the league’s complicated history around race and the quarterback position, with interviews from Briscoe, the first-ever Black man to start a game in the NFL at quarterback, and Moon, the only Black quarterback in the NFL’s Hall of Fame.

Vice Versa: Fear of a Black Quarterback is produced by 44 Blue Productions for Vice TV. Executive producers are Rasha Drachkovitch, David Hale, Jason Sklaver and Graham Hughes. Co-executive producers are Alan Bloom and Paul Haddad. Executive producer for Vice TV is Lee Hoffman.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) will announce the winners of the 43rd annual Sports Emmy Awards during an in-person ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P Rose Hall on May 24.
