Award-winning unscripted series Pit Bulls & Parolees, produced by 44 Blue Productions and Rive Gauche Television for Animal Planet, has been nominated for Best Docusoap and Docuseries at the Banff World Media Festival’s 2020 Rockie Awards.

Recognizing excellence in television and digital media, the global competition will stream live on June 25.

In addition to the CA$25,000 Rogers Prize for Excellence in Canadian Content, 26 awards are presented in the category streams of documentary and factual, arts and entertainment, children and youth, scripted, and podcast.

Last year, Pit Bulls & Parolees celebrated its tenth year on air. The series features Tia Torres and her family as they continue dedicating their lives to the New Orleans-based Villalobos Rescue Center, the largest pit bull rescue center in the country.

The show is executive produced by Rasha Drachkovitch, Billy Cooper and Jen Bies for 44 Blue Productions, and Lisa Lucas for Animal Planet, with Robyn Salzman as associate producer.

This year’s Banff World Media Festival event was recently canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Rockie Awards will go ahead as planned.

Pit Bulls & Parolees is also nominated in two categories at the 7th annual Reality Television Awards 2020 – for Best Feelgood Show and Best Overall Show. The winners will be announced on May 31.
