BBC Daytime has secured the rights to Red Arrow International’s “Decimate”. Actor, singer and comedian Shane Richie will host the brand new quiz show which is due to air Fall 2014. “Decimate” is created and produced by Red Arrow company CPL Productions.
“Decimate” sees a team of three contestants fighting to maintain a £20,000 Wall of Cash over four rounds. With every wrong answer their total is ‘Decimated’ – reduced by 10 percent. The question is: how much will they still have at the end of the show?
Controller BBC Daytime, Damian Kavanagh said: “We are excited to have commissioned this brand new series. It has huge play along and a great team dynamic that we know our audience have come to love and enjoy and with Shane hosting, it is a great addition to our daytime quiz line up.“
Danielle Lux, CPL Managing Director said: “We’re thrilled to be working with the BBC on a brand new quiz show format. BBC Daytime is in rude health and we’re delighted that ‘Decimate’ is to be part of such a vibrant schedule.”
Henrik Pabst, Managing Director, Global Format and Factual Distribution at Red Arrow International says “CPL has created the perfect quiz show. ‘Decimate’ guarantees nail-biting tension, further increased by the great studio design. I am thrilled that it now goes to the BBC, where it will fit in perfectly.”
“Decimate” was commissioned by BBC Daytime Controller Damian Kavanagh and Commissioning Editor Pam Cavannagh. The format was created by Hugh Rycroft and will be executive produced by Murray Boland, Danielle Lux, Lynn Sutcliffe and Hugh Rycroft. Jane O’Brien will be the series producer. The show will be recorded in front of a live studio audience throughout August.
A team of three players must answer questions in order to preserve as much of the £20,000 prize money as possible. Each time a player answers the question incorrectly, the prize money is “decimated”. The cash left in the wall, after all three team members have played, will be what they go on to play for in the final round.
