CBC Canada has announced that spy thriller “The Romeo Section” has been recommissioned for a second season.
Red Arrow International will continue to distribute the show worldwide.
“The Romeo Section” is created and executive produced by acclaimed showrunner Chris Haddock (co-executive producer/writer: Boardwalk Empire, creator/showrunner: Intelligence and Da Vinci’s Inquest).
Season One premiered on CBC in October 2015 and Season Two will shoot this summer in Canada for a premiere in fall 2016, with a trade launch at MIPCOM 2016.
“The Romeo Section” (20 x 1 hour) is a spy thriller about espionage in the Pacific Rim. Set in Vancouver, the show follows seasoned spymaster Professor Wolfgang McGee (Andrew Airlie – ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’; ’50/50′), an academic who secretly manages a roster of espionage assets and informants. These assets, referred to as Romeo or Juliet spies, use their powers of seduction to extract secrets from state intelligence targets.
Season Two of the show finds freelance intelligence agent Wolfgang McGee tasked with a covert investigation of a terrorist incident. The trail leads him forward into the dark side of intelligence services and backwards into his own past, with tragic personal and social consequences.
Meanwhile, Lily Song (Leeah Wong – ‘Intelligence’) is now a recruit for the Intelligence Service and working her way up the ladder, while taking drastic action to prevent her discovery as a double agent. Up and coming drug gangster Rufus (Juan Riedinger – “Narcos”) gets caught in an escalating city-wide turf war which upsets the gangster hierarchy and triggers an attempted coup d’etat at the very top of the heroin food chain.
The new series will again see Chris Haddock reunite with fellow executive producer Laura Lightbown.
“The Romeo Section” is produced by Haddock Entertainment for CBC Canada.
