Dorsey Pictures has agreed a deal with The Wright Brothers USA for the unscripted rights to The Fight to Flight, a new documentary series that will examine the race between the Wrights and the Smithsonians to become the first to take to the skies.
The limited series is set to take a deep dive into the lesser-known backstory behind the battle to launch the first successful powered aircraft. Chris Dorsey and Matt Assmus of Dorsey Pictures will executive produce.
“The Wright Brothers and the Smithsonian family’s race to space parallels that between Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. Though technology has advanced, the duel reignites our fascination with space and competing entities vying for ownership of the space,” said Dorsey Pictures CEO Chris Dorsey and SVP Matt Assmus.
Added Ken Botts, president of The Wright Brothers USA: “We are delighted that the story of the Wright brothers becoming the first to fly will be out in front of the television audience, inspiring humankind’s dreams to take flight for generations to come.”
Dorsey Pictures marked its 20th anniversary in 2021 with the release of the IMAX documentary Wings Over Water, narrated by Michael Keaton.
