Bosch Producer Fabrik Entertainment Developing Fight Club Author Chuck Palahniuk’s Novel Invisible Monsters for Television; Legion And Outlander Writer Jennifer Yale Adapting
Fabrik Entertainment, producer of Amazon series Bosch and upcoming series Interrogation for CBS All Access, has optioned the novel Invisible Monsters from Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk and will develop it as a television series, the first time one of the iconic author’s books has been adapted for television.
Writer Jennifer Yale is writing the adaptation. Fabrik Entertainment CEO Henrik Bastin and President Melissa Aouate are executive producing. Fabrik development VP Paul Hilborn, who brought the project to the company, is shepherding the development process.
Yale is a highly sought after writer who counts Legion (FX), Outlander (Starz), Dexter (Showtime), Da Vinci’s Demons (Starz), Underground (WGN) and Chambers (Netflix) among her impressive credits. In addition, she is writing and executive producer on a soon-to-be-announced Apple series. It’s an impressive trajectory for a writer whose first job in Hollywood was as a writer’s assistant to the legendary Mel Brooks. She later became Director of Development at the legendary director’s Brooksfilms LTD, and won an Emmy Award for writing a children’s animation series.
A propulsive, transgressive page-turner, Invisible Monsters was first published on September 17, 1999 by W.W. Norton & Co. The novel is centered on a fashion model who has everything – the perfect boyfriend, a thriving career, a loyal best friend –that is until a sudden freeway accident leaves her disfigured and incapable of speech. She quickly goes from the beautiful center of attention to being perceived as an invisible monster. Enter Brandy Alexander, Queen Supreme, one operation away from becoming a woman. Brandy teaches our now former fashion model that reinventing one’s self means erasing one’s past and making up something better. Together they break free from the confines of societal norms in truly illicit and surprisingly hopeful ways.
In a joint statement Executive Producers Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate said “We are delighted to bring to life a book that has moved readers and built a devoted global following over the past two decades. This thrilling novel offers a rare combination of rich character work and shocking revelations that only Palahniuk can deliver, and in Jennifer Yale’s talented hands we are confident this will be an engaging, cinematic experience that will be sure to grab attention and make headlines.”
