General Magic had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and will be available in theaters in May 2019.
Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to General Magic, directed by Sarah Kerruish and Matt Maude. The film had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and will be available in theaters in May 2019 with an ancillary release to follow in the Fall.
General Magic is a tale of how great vision and epic failure can change the world. Featuring members from the original Mac team along with the creators of the iPhone, Android, and eBay, the film captures the spirit of those who dream big and aim to put a dent in the universe. These designers saw the future decades before it happened and dared to show the life-changing consequences when we fail, fail again, fail better and ultimately succeed.
Director and Producer Sarah Kerruish said, “following an award winning festival run of the United States, we’re thrilled to be working with Gravitas Ventures to bring the film to big, small and handheld screens. Our hope is that General Magic will inspire the next generation of technologists and makers to learn from those who have gone before them and apply the lessons of General Magic to solving the most important problems of our day.”
Director and Producer Matt Maude said, “the reviews of General Magic following the Tribeca premiere were incredible, as were the award winning film festival responses we’ve had across the US. We’ve been delighted that the film has transcended audiences and age groups, showing them what is possible when a group of ordinary people come together to do something extraordinary. It’s always been our hope that General Magic motivates a new generation to create positive change in the world. A theatrical and on demand release of the film makes this dream even more possible, especially as so many will be watching the film on devices created by the incredible engineers and visionaries that worked at General Magic back in the 1990’s.”
“General Magic is a fascinating and entertaining documentary filled with unbelievable behind-the-scenes footage detailing the innovators and creators of the amazing technology that we all use today in our everyday lives. We are proud to be working with Sarah and Matt on this award winning film,” said Nolan Gallagher, CEO and Founder of Gravitas Ventures.
Gallagher from Gravitas Ventures negotiated the deal with Jason Ishikawa from Cinetic Media on behalf of the filmmakers.
