Red Arrow International has announced a landmark new scripted drama series for production in 2017. “Embassy Down” is an 8 x 1 hour thriller created and written by award-winning Danish screenwriter Anders Frithiof August (“The Legacy”, “Follow the Money”).

Red Arrow International is leading the co-financing of the series, and will distribute the drama worldwide. The co-production partner on the series is the international digital entertainment group MTG, who will premiere the show on its video streaming service Viaplay in the Nordics in 2018.

“Embassy Down” is produced by acclaimed producers René Ezra and Tomas Radoor at Nordisk Film (“A War”, “A Hijacking”, “Key House Mirror”). The executive producers are multi-award winners Henrik Bastin (“Bosch”, American Odyssey”), CEO of Fabrik Entertainment, a Red Arrow Entertainment Company, and Mikkel Bondesen (“Truth”, “The Killing”, “Burn Notice”). Also executive producing are Amelie von Kienlin, SVP Scripted Acquisitions and Co-Productions at Red Arrow International, and Melissa Aouate, Head of Development at Fabrik Entertainment.

Henrik Pabst, Managing Director of Red Arrow International, said: “‘Embassy Down’ is one of the most exciting projects I have been pitched in a long time, and something I knew we had to be an integral part of. I am delighted that MTG is joining us on this exciting journey, as we take the series out to the world.”

Jakob Mejlhede, MTG EVP and Head of Programming and Content Development, said: “This major new series deals unflinchingly with some of the most sensitive issues of our time. It is non-stop action and drama, with each episode raising big questions about human relationships and conflicted agendas. ‘Embassy Down’ is a local drama with global relevance and we are proud to be a partner in this project.”

Henrik Bastin, Partner and CEO of Fabrik Entertainment, commented: “I am fortunate to work with people I really admire, and with ‘Embassy Down’ we have the compelling combination of Anders Frithiof August, with his wealth of experience on great TV shows, alongside René and Tomas bringing their, and Nordisk’s, outstanding cinematic approach and impressive talent relationships to the TV world. To have them as our partners on this project, together with the impressive team from MTG, is a joy! ‘Embassy Down’ is not only a great thriller with international scope, it also touches on some of the big questions we face today as a society.”

Tomas Radoor of Nordisk, said: “Being able to continue our existing collaboration with Anders Frithiof August on a show with the caliber and magnitude of ‘Embassy Down’ is no less than absolutely thrilling. With strong partners in Fabrik, Red Arrow and MTG, we’re accomplishing a long-term goal of making a high end international show with profound complexity and character.”

“Embassy Down” (8 x 1 hour) is a suspense-laden new drama set in Copenhagen, that combines gritty, high-impact action with a multi-layered political thriller and human drama.

A party to celebrate the opening of the United States’ grand new embassy becomes a warzone when terrorists storm the building, taking embassy guests hostage.

What follows over a number of weeks is a taut, thrilling and unflinching look at the complex realities of the fight against a very different kind of modern-day terrorism.

“Embassy Down” moves between the two worlds of inside and outside the embassy siege: inside, the series explores the complex relationships between the hostages and their captors; outside the embassy, an intense and morally complex international thriller ensues, as relatives of the hostages and people in power clash over their cultural and political differences in trying to resolve the crisis.
