Red Arrow International is to distribute a slate of major new German dramas, to launch at this year’s MIPCOM. The lineup includes primetime SAT.1 crime series EINSTEIN starring Tom Beck and TV movie BERLIN ONE from the producers of “The Lives of Others”.
Following a high-rating pilot episode earlier this year, SAT.1 has commissioned a full season of crime series EINSTEIN (6 x 1 hour). Produced by Zeitsprung Pictures, the show stars Tom Beck (“Alarm for Cobra 11”) as Albert Einstein’s great grandson, a physicist with hereditary Huntington’s disease who is forced to help the police solve a series of challenging crimes.
BERLIN ONE (Berlin Eins, 1 x 2 hours) is a new event movie from Wiedemann & Berg – the award-winning producers of “The Lives of Others”. Starring multi-award winner Tobias Moretti (“Inspector Rex”), Friedrich Mücke (“Friendship!”) and Emilia Schüle (“Tatort”), “Berlin One” is directed by up-and-coming director Marvin Kren (‘The Station’, ‘Rammbock’), and is set during Berlin’s Golden Age in the roaring 20’s. Whilst high society revels in their luxurious lives, groups of gangsters are spreading prostitution, drug smuggling, blackmail and robbery across the city; Chief Inspector Lang and the cops of the Berlin One precinct are tasked with tracking them down.
Also from Wiedemann & Berg comes new comedy series HEART & SOUL (Frauenherzen, 6 x 1 hour). Commissioned following a successful movie pilot on SAT.1, this strong female ensemble sees four different women, with four different lives and stories, all set in contemporary Berlin. “Heart & Soul” stars Nadeshda Brennicke, Julia Hartmann, Muriel Baumeister and Christina Petersen.
A second season of successful crime series JOSY KLICK, HOMICIDE (Josephine Klick – Allein unter Cops, Season Two: 6 x 1 hour; total 12 x 1 hour) is also launching at MIPCOM. Produced by UFA Fiction (“Deutschland 83′), award-winning comedy actress Diana Amft (“Doctor’s Diary”) returns to the role of an exceptional cop who uses her female intuition, tenacity and country ways to solve unusual crimes in the big city.
Red Arrow International’s German scripted dramas will launch at MIPCOM alongside a strong line-up of English language fiction including previously announced titles: CLEVERMAN (6 x 1 hour) starring Iain Glen (“Game of Thrones”); PETER & WENDY (1 x 2 hours) starring Stanley Tucci (“The Hunger Games”); and season two of crime drama BOSCH (10 x 1 hour, total: 20 x 1 hour) starring Titus Welliver (“Argo”). The full MIPCOM fiction line-up will be announced shortly.
Henrik Pabst, Managing Director of Red Arrow International, said: “Alongside our English-language lineup, we are delighted to be launching this strong slate of internationally appealing German dramas. The quality of fiction coming out of SAT.1 is impressive; and shows such as “Einstein” fit the ever-growing international demand for procedural crime drama. The interest that the “Einstein” pilot has already generated is exciting”.
