Red Arrow Studios International brings cults, crimes and carnivores to MIPCOM 2019

New scripted, formats and factual shows include Dignity, The Bank Hacker, Dog’s Most Wanted and Meat the Family

Red Arrow Studios International is heading to this year’s MIPCOM with a diverse slate of high-profile new shows across scripted, formats and factual, from a host of award-winning creators.

Red Arrow Studios International’s scripted line-up includes Dignity (8 x 52’), a haunting thriller produced by Chilean production company Invercine & Wood and Germany’s Story House Pictures for Joyn (Germany) and MEGA (Chile). Based on real events, Dignity centres on a mysterious, Germanic cult ‘Colonia Dignidad’, established by a former Nazi soldier in a quiet Chilean town. After a decades-long history of torture, child abuse and murder, protected by General Pinochet’s dictatorship, federal prosecutor Leo Ramírez is tasked with bringing the sect’s elusive leader to justice. But Leo, and his younger brother Pedro, have their own secret history with Colonia.

Further scripted highlights include The Bank Hacker (8 x 50’) a high-stakes, character-driven thriller produced by De Mensen for VTM (Belgium) which sees a teenager join a team of expert con men and commit a daring bank heist. Alongside this is crime drama Vienna Blood (3 x 90’ or 6 x 45’), from acclaimed screenwriter Steve Thompson (Deep State, Jericho, Sherlock). Set in 1900s Vienna, a hot bed of philosophy, science and art, this thrilling series is based on the best-selling novels by Frank Tallis and produced by Endor Productions and MR Film, in co-production with Red Arrow Studios International, ZDF Germany and ORF (Austria). The series has already sold to the BBC in the UK, where it will air on BBC Two this year.

The non-scripted show roster features factual entertainment series Dog’s Most Wanted (10 x 45’), produced by Dorsey Pictures and Entertainment by Bonnie and Clyde for WGN America, which sees legendary bounty hunter Duane ‘Dog’ Chapman go after his biggest targets yet. Cameras follow him, his late wife Beth and their ferocious team of helpers ‘The Dirty Dozen’ as they embark on a cross-country manhunt to track fugitives from a hand-picked list of targets from the FBI, US Marshalls and individual US states.

Red Arrow’s MIPCOM format launches include topical new reality series Meat the Family, a production by Spun Gold TV, based on a format created by Rise Films for Channel 4 (UK). This noisy, new social experiment sees four meat-eating families welcome the animal they most frequently serve for dinner into their homes, before travelling around their country and abroad to learn more about animal welfare. At the end of each episode, they are forced to make one of the toughest decisions of their lives: go vegetarian forever and send the animal to a sanctuary, or remain meat eaters and kill their new best friend.

Also in the company’s format line-up is the hit new primetime entertainment series, Beat the Channel, which sees two popular TV presenters given the chance to win a 15-minute live broadcast slot, where anything goes! The original production – Joko & Klaas gegen ProSieben from Florida Entertainment for ProSieben in Germany, boosted ratings in every demo by up to 122% and a second series has been commissioned. Alongside this is fun and hilarious entertainment format BLOCK OUT which is created by Nippon TV, Red Arrow Studios and July August Productions for Channel 7 (Thailand). This entertaining new physical gameshow challenges contestants to stay on the wall – or have a great fall!

Red Arrow Studios International will also be bringing a pair of compelling true crime series to MIPCOM: Cult of Personality (6 x 48’) and Serial Psyche (5 x 48’). Cult of Personality is produced by Big Media for Reelz (US) and explores the terrifying legacies of history’s most notorious cult leaders, from Charles Manson to David Koresh, and includes an exclusive interview with Manson family members. Serial Psyche, produced by Big Media for UKTV (UK),  is a fascinating journey into the twisted minds of the world’s most dangerous serial killers and combines insightful commentary with interviews from leading experts in their fields.
