Key new sales scored for neo-noir crime drama.

Red Arrow Studios International has secured new international sales for stylish neo-noir crime drama Stella Blómkvist, with AMC Networks’ Sundance Now. The series has also been recommissioned for a second season by Síminn in Iceland.

Produced by Sagafilm for Síminn and Viaplay, Stella Blómkvist has been picked up by AMC Networks’ Sundance Now SVOD platform for North America, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Stella Blómkvist has previously sold to channels including NBCUniversal Global networks for Spain and the French-speaking territories.

Bo Stehmeier, President of Red Arrow Studios International said: “Stella Blómkvist is a gripping, stylishly executed female-driven series that puts a satisfying spin on the Nordic Noir phenomenon. Broadcasters and platforms continue to be attracted to genre-breaking international dramas such as this, and we are delighted to be bringing the show to audiences around the world.”

Jan Diedrichsen, Executive Director, Sundance Now said: “The Sundance brand is synonymous with great storytelling, and Stella Blómkvist is sure to appeal to Sundance Now’s discerning subscriber base, who come to the service for high-quality original content from around the globe.”

Shirley Bowers, VP Sales and Acquisitions for North America, Australia and New Zealand at Red Arrow Studios International concluded the deal with Sundance Now.

Based on the best-selling crime novels Stella Blómkvist (3×90’ or 6×45’) is directed by Óskar Thór Axelsson (Trapped, Black’s Game) and stars Heida Reed (Poldark) as a quick-witted lawyer. Smart and ruthless, with a dark past, a fluid sexuality and a taste for whiskey and easy money, Stella takes on cases that always lead to danger; and the only thing she likes about rules is breaking them, or using them to break her opponents.

Stella Blómkvist has attracted record audiences on Síminn TV in Iceland, more than doubling the channel’s average rating, and receiving eight nominations for Eddan Icelandic Film and TV Academy Awards. The drama also premiered in Scandinavia on Viaplay.

Stella Blómkvist is produced by Sagafilm for Síminn (Iceland) and Viaplay (Sweden) with support from the Icelandic Film Centre, the Ministry of Industries and Innovation and MEDIA, Creative Europe.
