Trade magazine Realscreen has unveiled its nominations for the 2023 Realscreen Awards, with The Weekly: Special Edition landing two nominations.

To Live and Die In Alabama is nominated for non-fiction: crime & investigation; and Move Fast and Vape Things is nominated in the non-fiction: science & technology category.

To Live and Die in Alabama is the story of Nathaniel Woods. When three police officers die in a shootout at a drug house in Alabama, one man was sentenced to death for the shootings, even though he was never accused of even touching the murder weapon.

Move Fast and Vape Things follows the story of two Stanford graduate students who had an inspired idea and an idealistic mission: create an e-cigarette that would help millions of people stop smoking. How did the founders of Juul lose their way and end up accused of addicting a whole new generation? This film reveals what it looks like when two men charm Silicon Valley with a disruptive company that ultimately allies with the very tobacco industry they initially set out to destroy.

The Realscreen Awards recognize the best in unscripted and non-fiction programming from around the world. The upcoming edition will be presented during a ceremony held at the JW Marriott in Austin on January 24, during the upcoming Realscreen Summit, which takes place January 23 to 26.

The Weekly: Special Edition (local title: The New York Times Presents) is produced by The New York Times and Left/Right for FX and Hulu in the US. Red Arrow Studios International distributes the show internationally.
